HumanThread engages individuals in conversation about peace, non-violence and human dignity through art, education and discussion. HumanThread's Center for Peace, Arts and Education offers public space and programs to the general community. We also largely target south and west Chicago youth, a population that faces extreme poverty, violence and low educational attainment due to diachronic negligence. Our OpenMind OpenMic program uses open mic (e.g. song, poetry, spoken word, rap, comedy, play, dance, story-telling, show and tell, news articles, any thoughts on personal lives/social issues, etc.) and nonviolence curriculum to develop open/positive self-expression, self-affirmation, acceptance of culture, and a sense of community and global citizenship. In addition, HumanThread sponsors the ONE WORLD speaker series featuring discussions on relevant social themes.
