Seas of Peace

Seas of Peace is a sailing and conflict resolution program for Middle Eastern and American youth. Partnered with Seeds of Peace, a world leader in youth conflict resolution, Seas of Peace combines peace-building and conflict resolution with the profound experience of life at sea. The first ten days of the three week summer program are spent learning to sail small boats in Casco Bay, Maine. The remaining time is spent living aboard a traditionally rigged schooner. During both parts of the program, the participants engage in dialogue about who they are and where they come from, undergo leadership training, and discuss ways to continue working for peace back home. In choosing such an isolated environment as a sailing boat, Seas of Peace challenges the participants to truly engage with one another - offering them no choice with whom they interact.
