The mission of The Children's Place Association is to improve the present and secure the future for children, youth and families confronted by HIV/AIDS or other life-changing health conditions. The Children's Place Association Early Childhood Learning Center provides specialized daycare services for preschool age children who are affected by HIV/AIDS or other life-changing health conditions. It is the only program of its kind in the Chicago area. All children served are from low-income families. The curriculum is customized to meet the needs of each individual child and staff members are trained to handle the emotional, behavioral and social issues surrounding HIV/AIDS. A registered nurse is onsite to address children's medical issues. The program is supported through a combination of government funding and private contributions. No fees are charged to client families. Our Residential Center is the only facility in the Chicago area providing short-term housing, medical care, and other therapeutic services for HIV/AIDS-affected children, and those with other unique life-changing health conditions. The 10-bed facility provides 24-hour care by specially trained registered nurses, child care workers and dedicated volunteers. Children stay at the Residential Center until they can return to their birth parents or a suitable foster or adoptive home is found.Programs at The Children's Place Association are designed to help children and families cope with the physical, emotional, social and financial impact of HIV/AIDS. In addition to our Early Childhood and Residential Programs, we offer a range of supportive services, including Case Management, Counseling, Supportive Housing, and Summer Camp. The Children's Place also operates a Foster/Adoptive Care Program which provides safe, loving homes for children separated from their birth families due to abuse, neglect, illness of other factors.Building on years of experience serving HIV/AIDS-affected children and families in Chicago, in 2007 The Children's Place Association launched a project to help those impacted by the disease in other countries. Children's Place International currently serves 450 HIV/AIDS-affected children in Haiti, providing case management and coordinating food, medication, housing, and educational support.
