Everyday Real Estate Transactions Can Help Provide Access to Vital Legal Aid

Coordinated Advice and Referral Program for Legal Services (CARPLS) is the largest provider of free legal advice in Cook County. As a member of Investing In Communities®, CARPLS can receive funding as a result of any real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases. CARPLS has already received  $5,753 through Investing In Communities. As more supporters use this platform, at no cost to them, CARPLS will have to help those who most need free legal advice will have access to it.

Client Services

There is a broad range of subjects that CARPLS can provide assistance on. One such service is the free legal aid hotline with attorneys on call to respond to any legal inquiry from low-income residents of Chicago. In addition, CARPLS offers free legal services to Veterans and Military Service Members. 

Access to Justice

CARPLS helps residents find assistance through a hotline and document preparation at county courthouses. All of CARPLS’ attorneys are compassionate and experienced. CARPLS does not actually represent individuals in court, but does provide self-help centers so that people can represent themselves. CARPLS also refer individuals to law firms, according to their needs.

Since its founding, CARPLS’ staff attorneys and volunteer attorneys have assisted with nearly one million legal questions. This Chicago-based organization has become a model for other states in providing legal services and advice to their underprivileged communities. 

Buying, Selling, or Leasing Supports CARPLS, At No Cost to You

At no cost to themselves, anyone who cares about providing legal help for low-income people can turn virtually any brokered real estate transaction into funding for CARPLS. For example, the purchase or sale of a $300,000 home can result in about $1,300 of free funding. Support their mission by using IIC’s free platform to make arrangements with an agent you already have in mind. Or use IIC to find and choose among real estate agents that are appropriate for the specifics of your residential or commercial real estate needs. Ready to start?

HOW YOUR REAL ESTATE TRANSACTION GENERATES $$$ FOR CARPLS

As a tax exempt 501(c)3 organization, CARPLS is eligible to receive at least 70% of the referral fee when you use Investing In Communities (IIC) to sign up with ANY real estate broker to handle your residential or commercial property transaction. Referral fees are a common expense paid by brokers only to other brokers for much desired referrals. As a licensed broker with a charitable mission, IIC is able to accept referral fees and pass most of those funds to your charity of choice - at no cost to you.
