Buying, Selling, & Leasing Helps Homeless and Low Income Families
Cornerstone Community Outreach (CCO) is a Chicago nonprofit that provides clothing, food, shelter and individualized care for low income families and the homeless. As a member of Investing In Communities®, the CCO can receive funding as a result of any brokered real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases. As more supporters use this platform at no cost to them, before engaging a real estate agent, CCO will have more resources to provide for Chicago’s poor and homeless residents.
Since its founding in 1989, CCO has been there for neighbors who have fallen on hard times providing a variety of services and programs to help them get back on their feet. Among these programs are elder care, homeless shelters, such as Hannah House, meals, and case management.
CCO Services for Neighbors
As a community outreach organization, CCO is dedicated to caring for the poor and homeless in their own neighborhoods. CCO’s Services for Our Neighbors primarily offers meals and clothes through:
- The Food Bags Program – Every week for over 20 years, CCO has provided free food.
- The Free Store – Some parents lack the funds to cloth their children or themselves, so CCO provides a free store of clothes.
- The Dinner Guest Program – Every Saturday, CCO provides healthy dinners for its low-income neighbors.
Services for Residents
Serving Chicago’s poor and homeless for 30 years, Cornerstone Community Outreach has helped over 25,000 people with healthy meals and shelter. CCO makes available to the residents it shelters:
- Nutritious Meals;
- Case Management Assistance;
- Mental Health Counseling and Nurse Visits;
- On site Education; and
- After School Child Care.
Shelter Programs for Homeless Families
Because families should not be separated, CCO opens its shelters for whole family units:
- Hannah House,Cornerstone Community Outreach’s oldest shelter facility, provides a safe place for single mothers and couples with children.
- Sylvia Center serves single mothers and fathers, as well as multi-generational families.
Shelter Programs for Homeless Individuals
CCO also provides assistance to its clients, enabling them to more quickly become independent again, with two additional shelters for homeless individuals:
- Naomi House, which is focused on finding permanent housing and employment for women.
- The Epworth Shelter serves homeless men.
Senior Services
Recognizing that some of the most vulnerable people in any city are homeless senior citizens, Cornerstone Community Outreach partners with Friendly Towers to provide low-income homeless seniors with comfortable housing and case management.
Your Purchase, Sale, or Lease Provides Shelter for the Homeless
At no cost to themselves, anyone who cares about helping the homeless can turn virtually any brokered real estate transaction into funding for Cornerstone Community Outreach. For example, the purchase or sale of a $300,000 home can result in about $1,300 of free funding. Support CCO’s mission by using IIC’s free platform to make arrangements with an agent you already have in mind. Or use IIC to find and choose among real estate agents that are appropriate for the specifics of your residential or commercial real estate needs. Ready to start?
