Buying, Selling, & Leasing Can Help Provide Valuable Education to Vulnerable Youth

Dreams for Kids + IICDreams for Kids (DFK) offers practical, real world training for vulnerable youth to prepare them for social and financial success. As a member of Investing In Communities®, DFK can receive funding as a result of any real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases.  Already, $8,111 has been raised. As more supporters use this platform, at no cost to them, DFK will have more funds to assist youth in becoming successful social entrepreneurs.

Since 1989, Dreams for Kids is dedicated to educating youth both in-school and after-school. More than just education though, DFK provides mentoring. In addition to DFK’s proven social entrepreneurship program, Youth Enterprise Solutions (YES), they also host the Holiday for Hope program, Extreme Recess, and support Project I Am, which was founded by one of their ambitious students, Jahkil Jackson.

Youth Enterprise Solutions

Dreams for Kids online curriculum is delivered to youth in their sophomore and junior years of highschool and is reinforced by mentors outside of school in two primary areas:

  1. Social Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship leadership –  Guided by real professional entrepreneurs and mentors, youth in the program are taught the entrepreneurial mindset needed for global citizenship in the 21st century.
  2. Action Project – The DMK curriculum is applied to actual entrepreneurial initiatives that solve real problems and turn a profit. Students are allowed to gain hands-on experience under the supervision of working professionals.

Holiday for Hope

Holiday for Hope is the event that started Dreams for Kids on Christmas Eve, 1989. Since then it has offered joy and hope to 70,000 at risk youth by providing gifts of food, arts, crafts, balloons, sports, music, dancing, and more.

Extreme Recess

Dreams for Kids partners with children living with disabilities, to make them the star of the show for a day. Extreme Recess hosts events, run by volunteers, that allow children with disabilities to participate in sporting events that are usually off-limits to them, whether it’s getting out on the lake for swimming, boating, and fishing, or making a free-throw on the basketball court. Extreme Recess turns these dreams into a reality.

Project I Am

Dreams for Kids students have seen massive success, perhaps best showcased by Jahkil Jackson. At age 8, Jahkil Jackson responded to Dreams for Kids’ education and mentoring by founding Project I Am, an initiative that raises awareness for homelessness as well as distributing “blessing bags” to homeless and disaster victims in diverse locations such as Puerto Rico, Houston, and Florida. In 2017, Jackson’s I Am Project was recognized by President Barack Obama.
