Buying, Selling, and Leasing Can Help Drive Social Impact in Illinois

Forefront is the only statewide association building a social impact sector for all of Illinois. As a member of Investing In Communities®, Forefront can receive funding as a result of virtually any real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases. Already $1,000 has been raised. As more supporters use this free platform,  Forefront will have more funds with which to promote an effective and informed philanthropic and nonprofit sector.

With over 1,100 member organizations working across 26 issue areas, Forefront is the driving force for attracting investment, developing talent, leading advocacy efforts, and mobilizing collective action for greater social impact. In collaboration with its members, Forefront (Previously known as Donors Forum) is able to speak on behalf of both nonprofits and philanthropic groups in Illinois. 

Forefront is currently working on over twenty six separate issue areas in Illinois. By focusing on four key strategies, Forefront is able to provide assistance in Illinois to several groups and to enrich the arts along with improving communities. These strategies include: finding and bringing investment to the community, developing the internal strengths of the organization, improving policies, and promoting collective actions and collaboration among members.

Mission Sustainability Funding

Forefront’s Mission Sustainability Initiative provides effective and confidential advice and resources to nonprofits interested in merging or resource-sharing with other nonprofits. When done well, mergers create efficiencies and synergies that advance the mission with greater impact. 


#ILGive is the Illinois spinoff from the national Call To Action for people to give back rather than consume, largely as a counterweight to the shopping frenzies that happen on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Forefront works to develop a coordinated strategy that helps members to create consistent messaging and leverage public awareness. By creating a cohesive message and marshalling resources, Forefront is able to help more Illinoisans connect to causes they care about and foster a spirit of generosity and citizen philanthropy. 

Democracy Initiative

The state of Illinois receives over $20 billion of federal funding per year for Medicaid, infrastructure, SNAP, and other programs designed to aid low-income people. Because the funding formula is based on population, it’s crucial that Illinois have an accurate and thorough counting in the 2020 census. Forefront’s Democracy Initiative engages nonprofit leaders, local legislators and other stakeholders to make sure everyone is counted and that everyone who can vote does so.

At no cost to themselves, anyone who cares about assisting the people of Illinois to improve lives can turn virtually any brokered real estate transaction into funding for Forefront.  For example, the purchase or sale of a $300,000 home can result in about $1,300 of free funding. As a licensed broker with a charitable mission, IIC is able to accept referral fees and pass most of those funds to your charity of choice - at no cost to you.
