Buying, Selling, & Leasing Can Help Stray Pets Find a Family
The Harbor Humane Society(HHS) acts as a refuge for homeless pets in Ottawa County, Michigan, coordinating adoptions of animals in their care and working in the community to prevent pets from ending up in the streets. As a member of Investing In Communities®, HHS can receive funding as a result of almost any brokered real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, and commercial leases. Already, $1,687 has been raised using this free platform. Choosing to engage a real estate agent with Investing In Communities is not only free, but also allows supporters to contribute to HHS’s work as they help stray pets find homes.
Since 1956, HHS has provided valuable education and programs to the community. Beyond just acting as an animal shelter, HHS arranges adoptions and also helps reunite people with their lost pets. Whether Ottawa County residents are looking for spay and neutering services, youth programs, or even obedience training, the Harbor Humane Society is a valuable resource for pet owners.
Adoption and Reclaiming Lost Pets
The Harbor Humane Society is a full-service operation. People looking to adopt a pet will find the animals microchipped, up to date on their vaccinations, with worm and flea prevention, and with spay and neutering procedures already taken care of. These dogs and cats are ready to move into their new home. Animals found with collars or who are believed to be lost are held and reconnected with their owners.
Youth Programs
HHC connects young people with pet-oriented fun and educational opportunities, including:
- Spark Camps – Children are invited to participate in both school year and summer Spark Camps that let them interact with animals, make friends, and learn more about humane treatment of animals;
- Junior Volunteer Club is for kids who graduate from the summer Spark Kids Academy. This club allows children to work with animals and help with tasks around the animal shelter; and
- Pet Pajama Party and Birthday Parties – HHC regularly hosts parties for youth that allow them to celebrate their birthdays or just gather for movies, pizza, with cute dogs and cats dressed in pajamas.
Ales for Tails
The Harbor Humane Society presents its flagship annual fundraiser, Ales for Tails. Featuring local craft brews, music, and a raffle, Ales for Tails is a great opportunity to have fun, while supporting a good cause.
Putts for Paws
Putts for Paws fundraiser gives pet lovers and golfers alike another way to show support. Participants not only purchase an 18 hole game of golf for 4, but also have access to a bar and prizes. People who are interested in sponsoring Putts for Paws can choose to combine their sponsorship to include the Ales for Tails event.
