Buying, Selling, & Leasing Provides Funding for Hinsdale Humane Society

The Hinsdale Humane Society (HHS) is championing the cause of neglected animals while actively fostering a healthy relationship between people and animals in their HInsdale, Illinois, community. As a member of Investing In Communities®, the Hinsdale Humane Society can receive funding as a result of virtually any brokered real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, and commercial leases. People who use this free platform contribute to the Hinsdale animal shelter’s efforts to provide education, advocacy, and adoptive services.

The Hinsdale animal shelter that is operated by the HHS today was actually started back in 1953 in reaction to the terrible conditions in which animals were kept at the local pound. HHS sticks up for many of the animals that come under their care that, on the surface, are a little rough around the edges and harder to place in a home. They provide valuable education for people in the community that want to learn about humane treatment of animals or how to care for their pet properly. There are even obedience classes  and pet therapy programs available, making the HHS a local leader  when it comes to animal and human relations. Perhaps most famously, however, HHS housed one of the most iconic animal stars in TV history, Morris the Cat

Pet Therapy

The Hinsdale Foundation loves to help out animals, but sometimes animals can help humans just as much. The HHS has trained therapy dogs who, with their trainers, make themselves available at hospitals and assisted living homes to connect humans with the many benefits of pet therapy, such as:

  • Mental Health – pets can be a huge emotional and mental encouragement, lifting spirits and showing unquestioning affection;
  • Physical Health – aside from the general health benefits of feeling joyful, pet therapy can prompt people to engage in healthy, playful physical activity; and
  • Education – pets help create a relaxed and fun learning environment for people of all ages.

Morris the Cat

Famous for being the star of many cat food commercials, Morris the Cat is clearly the most famous personality to be attached to the HHS. When he was adopted by the Hinsdale animal shelter staff, it was quickly noted that Morris had the demeanor of a movie star. Over the years, Morris became a highly recognized and beloved TV star and remains a beloved icon at the HHS.
