Your Real Estate Transaction Can Help Someone on the Road to Recovery
The Holland Rescue Mission (HRM)works to end homelessness in Western Michigan by providing emergency shelter and long-term services to those in need. As a member of Investing in Communities®, Holland Rescue Mission can receive funding from virtually any brokered real estate transaction — home sales, home purchases, and commercial leases. IIC has already raised $5,739 for HRM. When supporters use this platform, at no cost to themselves, HRM will have more resources to help the homeless on their path to recovery.
The Holland Rescue Mission is a Christian nonprofit organization administering support to homeless men and women of all backgrounds. By supplying a safe place to stay, nutritional meals, and warm clothing, HRM inspires hope in those facing serious difficulties. Additionally, the Mission implements practical steps to help its clients achieve steady, positive change. A work-based program, housed in the HRM stores, teaches lifelong career and independent living skills to encourage sustainable success. This innovative opportunity gives new purpose to the HRM’s thrift stores, which accept donated clothes furniture, and household items for resale to further fund the Mission’s efforts.
The Holland Mission Gateway Center
In 2017, HRM opened the doors to its Gateway Center, an 82,000 square foot space housing a thrift store and the Gateway Academy. The Gateway Academy is a long-term recovery program through which students receive free housing and hands-on professional training to serve them throughout their lives. During this 48 week program, participants help run the Holland Mission Gateway Center’s store, developing skills in retail, customer service and inventory, for example. They also receive counseling and education to address the issues that resulted in their homelessness, giving them the tools for a fresh start.
Biblical Counseling
In addition to supplying homeless men and women with physical necessities like food, shelter and clothing, the Holland Rescue Mission ministers emotional support rooted in Christianity. Through biblical counseling, the Mission aims to heal wounds and help its guests develop a foundational faith that promotes self-worth and good decision-making. The Mission strives to become a center for biblical counseling training, preparing counselors to serve as beacons of hope for those facing major hardships.
The Urban Ministry Institute
The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) is an educational resource for Christian leaders who serve urban, low-income areas. Through TUMI, the Holland Rescue Mission offers affordable instruction to those who want to guide underserved communities, but do not have the financial resources to attend a seminary.
