Support the Promotion of Science for Curious Adults
The Illinois Science Council (ISC) engages, educates and entertains the public about STEM in our everyday lives. As a member of Investing In Communities®, funds from real estate transactions, including the sale and purchase of properties, and leases of office, retail and industrial space, can help fund the Illinois Science Council. Be the first to help this organization when you buy or sell a home or your company considers renewing its lease or moving to new space. At no cost to you, use IIC to support ISC programming that introduces STEM to adults, helping to complement efforts and progress being made with students in K-12 institutions.
Key to ISC’s efforts of introducing STEM to adults is a fun approach to making science accessible for all. Instead of abandoning it in laboratories, ISC programming brings science to life, so nonscientists have the opportunity to be amazed. When we find science remarkable, we are more likely to promote it, which is important for the health of our large society and for our small planet.
It’s not about whether you liked science in school. The ISC produces programs and events that integrate science into popular adult events, including fun runs, cocktail parties and major festivals. Science in Illinois is a booming part of the state’s international footprint. The ISC conducts programs to help promote the state’s largest city, Chicago, as a major City of Science.
Science Cocktail Party
At a recent event, the ISC planned a science cocktail party to raise money as well as offer interactive displays of the power of science in Illinois. From themed drinks to state-of-the-art displays, the event supported key elements of the ISC:
- Raising money to fund its activities in Chicago and beyond;
- Showing the public some of the incredible things happening at scientific organizations in Illinois; and
- Promoting science in a fun atmosphere
Pi Day Pi K Run
Every Pi Day, March 14th because of the first three digits of Pi (3.14), ISC hosts a Pi Day Pi K Run with a number of prizes, activities and of course, pies. The organization plans the 3.14 mile run and coordinates with bakeries and pizzerias. The event is an all ages, family oriented event with a large following. Every March, runners from all over the Chicagoland area participate in the Pi Day Pi K Run, and in fun science-oriented activities.
Chicago Science Fest
Each May since 2015, the Chicago Science Fest has helped promote science in Illinois with a market, informal talks on recent scientific findings and workshops aimed at promoting science for adults. This provides scientists and science-oriented organizations with a place to showcase their work. It’s also a great opportunity to tap into the vibrant community Chicago has, whether attendees think they like science or not. It is a key event that ISC hosts in promotion of science for the curious.
