Buying, Selling, and Leasing Generates Funding to Support Powered by Action
Powered by Action (PbL) demolishes barriers to getting in-person services from nonprofits and schools. As a member of Investing In Communities®, PbA can receive funding as a result of any brokered real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases. As more supporters use this platform, at no cost to them or to PbA, before engaging a real estate agent, PbA will have more resources with which to help more people get the services they need from nonprofits and schools.
Mission, Vision, and Accomplishments of PbA
PbA helps nonprofits do good—better by providing a mobile-enabled platform that automates digital media and program delivery to increase staff capacity and to demolish barriers of access and engagement, including the lack of transportation and income, language and busy schedules. Now nonprofits can digitize proven programs to extend reach, and increase engagement and impact virtually.
Overcoming Limitations to Traditional Nonprofit In-Person Service Delivery
Today’s nonprofit organizations almost always utilize in-person methods to deliver programs to their constituents. Although over 1 million nonprofits exist to serve diverse needs, vulnerable populations are left trapped in their circumstances in part due to the limitations of in-person delivery models. Because these barriers affect nonprofits as well as those they serve, nonprofits simply can’t serve all of the people who need their help.
For instance, more than one in five impoverished Americans live in rural areas, but nearly 90% of nonprofit service providers are located in cities as far as 250 miles away. Even in urban areas, where nonprofit density is much higher, people with mobility issues face barriers traveling to receive nonprofit services. In cities without robust public transportation options, people without access to personal transportation often cannot attend meetings or classes, and single mothers, half of whom live below the poverty line, typically do not have access to the childcare they need to leave the house and go to a meeting. Marginalized and underserved populations are unable to access the programs that they need, and as a result, they remain trapped in cycles of poverty, chronic disease and crime. Meanwhile, nonprofits are limited by physical capacity and the related high cost of delivering services in-person.
Nonprofits can reach these populations with barriers of distance and income by adopting Internet-based, digital program delivery models. According to a report by the Pew Research Center, 82% of American households have Internet connectivity at home, 96% own a cell phone and 81% have a smartphone. Likewise, Internet-based applications have become exponentially more capable and user friendly enabling organizations to work in ways that were previously impossible. Now, nonprofits have the opportunity to offer programs digitally that could only be delivered in-person previously. Powered by Action’s mobile-enabled platform disrupts the status quo and revolutionizes philanthropic program delivery to anyone, anywhere as though they are in the same room.
History of PbA
Founded in 2009, Powered by Action is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help nonprofits and schools do good, better. Under the leadership of Andre Hughes, a former Global Managing Partner at Accenture, PbA empowers nonprofits to achieve their missions with simple, powerful software tools. PbA took a huge leap forward in late 2015 by releasing PbA_1.0, a collaboration software platform that enables nonprofits to communicate with anybody, anywhere as though they were in the same room. PbA is now working to bring PbA_2.0 to as many nonprofits and schools as possible. It is also further developing PbA_2.0, which brings the core functions of the original app into customized, mobile apps for nonprofits and schools.
