Reading In Motion

Promote Reading Skills with Your Next Real Estate Transaction

Reading In Motion (RIM) starts children on the path to a lifetime of literacy and learning. As a member of Investing In Communities®, RIM can receive funding as a result of any real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases.  Already $4,371 has been raised through a single office lease. As more supporters use this platform before engaging an agent, RIM will have more resources to get more children reading and learning at an early age.

Arguably, no skill is more important during one’s life, and to the cognitive growth and development of a young child, than learning to read. RIM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to teaching Kindergarten and First Grade students reading skills that are fundamental to their prospects for a successful life.

The RIM Difference

Reading In Motion was founded in Chicago in 1983 to provide an arts-based education to children in Chicago Public Schools. With that as a starting point, RIM employs three key components for success:

  1. RIM’s Program coaches work with classroom teachers to incorporate music and dance that inspires students. Program coaches collaborate with teachers and school administrators to provide the learning tools children need to raise their reading levels, with results that are both consistent and quantifiable.
  2. The RIM Curriculum focuses on music, dance, and drama, engaging and inspiring students in a way that optimizes learning conditions.
  3. Balancing consistency and a commitment to continuous improvement over 34 years has honed RIM’s approach to making it the most effective literacy program.

Why RIM Matters

RIM’s goal is to give children foundational reading skills at a very early age and provide additional guidance to individuals whose environment or other circumstances put them in greater need of support. Studies show that reading (or being read to) helps children acquire language literacy skills more quickly. As they gain a better understanding of the use and meaning of language, children also build better learning and social skills.

After 35 impactful years in Chicago, Reading In Motion is now expanding nationally. By donating to RIM, you are starting children on the path to a lifetime of learning, providing them with a solid foundation for success in school and for the rest of their lives.
