Science Olympiad

Be a Champion for Science with Your Next Real Estate Transaction

Science Olympiad(SO) is dedicated to instilling an interest in science in the next generation and producing a technology-literate workforce. As a member of Investing In Communities®, SO can receive funding as a result of any real estate transaction – home sales, home purchases, or commercial leases. Already, $3,949 has been raised through Investing In Communities. As more supporters use this platform before engaging an agent, more students can benefit from the work of Science Olympiad.

Besides the intrinsic benefits of developing scientific skills and knowledge, there are some compelling stats and reasons to foster an interest in it, including: spurring faster job growth and higher wages and reversing our declining standing among other advanced countries.

Taking Science Fairs to the Next Level

Modeled on the modern Olympic Games, Science Olympiad (SO) is a team competition created to improve the quality of science education for middle and high school students. SO features a series of competitive events and standards-based challenges designed to expand students’ knowledge of the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), as well as many other sciences. Science Olympiad is recognized as one of the nation’s premier educational events, boasting nearly 8,000 teams competing across all 50 states.

Each team is composed of up to 15 members, and the Olympiad’s 23 events cover nearly every area of scientific inquiry including:

  • Earth and Space Sciences;
  • Inquiry and Nature of Science;
  • Life and Social Sciences;
  • Physical Sciences; and
  • Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Olympiad events fall into two categories: study events and building events. The former often involve a written test. The latter, more hands-on, usually involve an entire year spent creating or building something. And then doing that again, from start to finish, during the competition.

Students who participate in Science Olympiad benefit in numerous ways. In addition to advancing their subject-area knowledge, participants develop and hone their research and writing skills. Being an Olympiad student can also prove valuable when applying for college. Scholarships are available for some high-performing SO participants  and/or their teams. All of these benefits make Science Olympiad exciting, noteworthy, and a 501(c)3 nonprofit deserving of your support!
