Born in the 1980s during the HIV epidemic, Test Positive Aware Network emerged as an influential advocate for people with the virus. Now that AIDS is so much better understood, it is important to make sure that the information is distributed accurately and effectively. This is one of the many missions of TPAN. Additionally, they provide free HIV testing in Chicago and host huge benefits like the annual Ride For Life event, which used to be called the Ride For AIDS Chicago. They also operate a syringe exchange program for Chicago residents. 

Free HIV Testing Chicago

For any person 13 and older, TPAN offers free HIV testing in Chicago, as well as free HCV testing, all on a walk-in basis. The testing is confidential and quick. 

Ride For AIDS Chicago

Remaining a creative and fun way to raise funds for TPAN, Ride For AIDS Chicago has rebranded itself as the Ride For Life. Participants in the fundraiser cycle from Chicago to Michigan. Sponsors of the Ride For Life pledge to donate money for every mile cycled, making for an exciting community effort.

Syringe Exchange Program Chicago

TPAN partners with the Chicago Recovery Alliance to run a syringe exchange program in Chicago, Illinois providing clients with new, sterilized syringes. 

Support for People Living with HIV

For people living with AIDS, TPAN offers a wide variety of services and resources, such as: 

  • Case Management Services – Case managers are available to help clients take advantage of all the services and opportunities available to them;
  • Retention Services – Once diagnosed, these services involve help finding a doctor and connecting to the right caretakers as soon as possible;
  • Housing Assistance; TPAN can offer assistance for low income clients and help arrange for special crisis housing-solutions; 
  • Legal Assistance Clinic – These clinics help clients navigate often tricky legal complications; and
  • Group Support – TPAN connects clients with specific support groups that offer community and encouragement.
